Google’s SSL Security Algorithm Will Affect Your Website’s Ranking

Google announced in August 2014 ranking websites in the organic search results was going to include if the website was using an SSL certificate for the entire website. This would mean using a SSL 2048-bit key certificate (preferably using SHA-2) and provide a small ranking benefit. Google did mention the algorithm change would carry “less weight than other signals such as high-quality content.” While this may carry less weight in improving the ranking position of a web page, what do you think the algorithm will do if your website is not using an SSL certificate? After all Google added they “may decide to strengthen” the signal because they want to “encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.” At Google’s 2014 I/O Conference one of their sessions was named “HTTPS Everywhere”. The concept is if all legitimate business websites implemented an SSL certificate the Internet would be more secure. The concept certainly has merit because in order to implement an SSL certificate your business has to disclose its information. Spam and fraud websites certainly are less likely to decide having an SSL certificate on their website under these circumstances. The last [...]

Maserati Home Page By-Pass To See Car Models After Super Bowl TV Commercial

Maserati decided have their first Super Bowl TV commercial about the new Ghibli model featuring Oscar-nominated actress Quvenzhané Wallis. Considering the game was getting boring with the Seattle Seahawks constantly scoring without any points from the Denver Broncos, why not take a few minutes to do something else. The first thing I did was to check out the Maserati website. No matter how you type in www.maserati.com or look for their website in a Google search you keep coming to a landing page during the Super Bowl to their TV commercial. Well, personally speaking that seems a bit silly because after I watched the Super Bowl commerical I wanted to learn more about the Ghibli. How the heck are we suppose to by-pass this TV commercial on their home page to get more information about the Ghibli? Here is a trick to find what the URL is of the pages within their website: Go to Google and type in site:maserati.com in the search box. This will show you that Google has 62,700 pages indexed of the Maserati website. From here find the web page you want. In this case the Ghibli is located at www.ghibli.maserati.com or a list of all [...]

How To Use Sitemaps To Promote Your Website

Sitemaps were traditionally utilized as a user interface to help visitors find particular website content. Generally, standard HTML sitemaps have a sitemap page which consists of links and descriptions to all pages within the website. Sometimes the pages are even organized with headings. The sitemap process has matured considerably in the past few years, beginning when Google introduced Sitemaps 0.84 in June 2005 to accommodate the publishing of lists of links for an entire business website. That was when sitemap idea progressed to pushing your website URLs out to the general digital community using server based files. The server based files come in a variety of formats including HTML, XML, ROR, Text and zipped files as .gz format. Soon, support for sitemaps began to gain acceptance by the larger search engines. In November 2006, Google, MSN and Yahoo announced joint support for the Sitemaps protocol. At that time, the version was called Sitemap 0.90 and the website Sitemaps.org was created. In April 2009, Ask and IBM announced support for Sitemaps. At the same time Google, Yahoo, MSN announced their search robots would auto-discover sitemaps through a command in the robots.txt. With these sitemaps search engines can more intelligently index the [...]
