Home/Health Care

Health care or healthcare is the maintenance or improvement of health via the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, illness, injury, and other physical and mental impairments in human beings. It is delivered by health professionals (providers or practitioners) in allied health professions, chiropractic, physicians, physician associates, dentistry, midwifery, nursing, medicine, optometry, pharmacy, psychology, and other health professions. It includes the work done in providing primary care, secondary care, and tertiary care, as well as in public health.

Access to health care varies across countries, groups, and individuals, largely influenced by social and economic conditions as well as the health policies in place. Countries and jurisdictions have different policies and plans in relation to the personal and population-based healthcare goals within their societies. Health care systems are organizations established to meet the health needs of target populations.

ComForcare Offers Advice for Healthy Lungs

Elderly care clients can benefit from the insight given by a recent Swedish study.  The study suggests the healthier your lungs are, the better your brain’s processing speed and problem-solving abilities are as you age. The study analyzed more than 800 men and women aged 50 to 85 who were followed for up to 19 years. It was found that maintaining lung function benefits cognitive performance. This could be because poor lung health may lower oxygen levels in the blood, which could, in turn, affect chemicals that transmit signals between brain and cells.   With this in mind, consider what you are doing to maintain healthy lungs.  Whether you are 40, 50, 60, or 70, there are steps you can take to strengthen and protect your lungs.   Here are some of the top suggestions from our expert home care team:   -          No Smoking.  Period.  Smoking is the most damaging habit you can acquire for lung health.  Seniors who smoke more, are at a higher risk of developing lung cancer, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema, but any amount of smoking delivers adverse side effects.  Second hand smoke is also dangerous and should be avoided. -          Exercise more.  Exercise makes it [...]

Home Care Franchise Owner Opens Up about Starting a New Business

ComForcare Chicago was started as the result of one entrepreneur recognizing a need in the community for client-centered home care services.  Although owner Jeff Bechar is now a community leader in the home care industry, he wasn’t always in the elderly care business.   Jeff grew up in an entrepreneurial family, and travelled on business trips internationally with his father since he was 13 years old.  He spent over 30 years in international operations with consumer product companies including Charbroiled, the largest producer of gas grills in the world, based in Georgia.  With his career, Jeff has travelled to every developing region including Latin America, Asia, and Eastern Europe.  He has spent up to 70 percent of his time travelling since graduating college.   A Need for Better Home Care Services However, as his parents reached their 70s, Jeff wanted and needed to spend more time with them and was forced to cancel business trips due to their urgent elderly care needs and health issues.  He observed the home health services they received and was unsatisfied with what he saw.  During this time, Jeff also became more aware of the many challenges seniors face as they age.   Jeff also [...]

Home Care Franchise Meets the Needs of the Chicago Senior Community

ComForcare Home Care franchise owner Jeff Bechar is one of the many ComForcare franchise owners who found themselves dissatisfied with the quality of care available in his community and chose to take matters into his own hands.  After watching his parents deal with services from their home care agency that he found unsatisfactory and realizing there was a need for exceptional care services, Bechar opened ComForcare in Chicago – a provider of private-duty non-medical home care.   Filling a Need for Exceptional Home Care “I wasn’t happy with the quality of care that was being sent out to us,” he says.  Mr. Bechar’s business hires and trains certified nursing assistants to provide non-medical, in-home care to people in Chicago, Lincolnwood, Skokie, Norridge, Park Ridge, Arlington Heights and Oak Park. His team of professional caregivers offer home care services on a full-time or part-time basis to meet the needs of each individual client.   “The response has been good from the clients and the families that use our care,” he says.   Making the Change Before opening ComForcare, Bechar worked at a career in international business.  At times, he spent up to 75 percent of his time travelling the world.  However, between [...]

ComForcare Mokena Partners with Southland Health Care Forum for CNA Training Program

Home care providers at ComForcare rely on an incredible team of nurses and caregivers to provide world-class service for their clients.  Due to the increase in Americans now entering their retirement years, there is a great need for certified nursing assistants in the home care industry.  Read how one ComForcare home care franchise in Illinois was able to provide training for their staff and also recruit and train new nurses for the home care field.   The following article written by Mike Nolan was featured in the South Town Star in 2011 and shares Svenningsen’s story:   In the lobby of ComForcare Senior Services’ offices in Mokena hang photos of a smiling Thelma Money, surrounded by family members.  The Orland Park woman was, in a sense, the inspiration for the business.   Valerie Svenningsen’s often frustrating quest for an in-home caregiver for her ailing grandmother, whom she affectionately called “nama,” led her and her husband to open a franchised location of  ComForcare in 2003.   She’s since also had to rely on caregivers for her mom and dad, as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law.   “We know what it’s like to be on the other side,” Svenningsen, a Frankfort [...]
